Boston Red Sox Quilt for My Son-In-Law

Happy New Year everyone! Here is the quilt I have been referring to as "The Secret Quilt". I was forced to call it that because my most wonderful son-in-law is a bit of a snoop. He is also very smart and given just a bit of a clue, he can run with it and before long, the puzzle is put together!

All that being said, I am thrilled with how this quilt turned out. Bonnie Hunter did the quilting, and I created the appliqued Bo Sox emblem in the center, and naturally I did all the piecing. The quilting is an all over star pantograph done entirely in white thread, so it stands out beautifully on the red and blue fabric. The backing is solid red, so there the stars really show up well. My son-in-law really loves the quilt, and I do believe that he was very surprised by the gift. It so warmed my heart to see the joy this quilt created.

The photo below has my Granddaughter looking a bit perplexed. I think she sensed that Gammie was packing up to leave New York to head back to Florida. She is the cutest thing ever, I do believe. Big sigh...I miss her. I bet she misses me right now, too.

that is a GREAT quit! I'm so disapointed that the "secret quilt" wasn't a pink flamingo with a stocking cap for me! ;-) Madelyn looks like she already misses you in the picture. Poor baby, she must move back to Florida very soon. Did you realize you only have THREE things on your to do list that aren't DONE????? You better come on over and help me with mine!

That is an awesome quilt. Where did you get the RS logo...I want to make a lap quilt for my dad for father's day and I don't have an idea where to get one. I have found a bunch of RS fabric, but nothing like that. He is a huge fan, and I have 2 SILs who are (I am ashamed to say it) Yankee fans so I love to shower his with Sox stuff. You help is much appreciated.

Love your quilt! Could you provide some more details on how to create the appliqued logo and where you found a template? I would love to give it a try. Thanks!

RUTH! You have your blogger set to "no reply" and thus I can't email you, nor can I go to your profile or blog because that seems to be set to private. As much as I would like to help you, since I can't contact you in any way, I guess it ends here...

Thank you so much for sharing your amazing talent! That is a beautiful quilt. I don't suppose you would be willing to share the pattern and where you obtained the center block? I'm somewhat new to quilting and would LOVE to make a quilt for my native New England husband. Again, thanks for sharing your projects and tips!

I am the proud recipient of this REDSOX quilt and I must say I couldn't be happier. Words cannot describe how meaningful the quilt is. It does not leave the living room. It must always be within 5 feet of the television. When these go public and all of RSN (red sox nation for you non sox fans) buys one I will always know that I have the first one ever. This was the greatest gift of all time. I have the best mother in law!

Your quilt is amazing! I absolutely love it. I am the founder and president of Wrapped Up in Sports (www.wrappedupinsports.org) and we make, collect and donate New England team quilts for children in need. Your Red Sox quilt is exactly the type of quilts we are looking for. I donated 15 quilts made of the Green Monster to the Jimmy Fund Clinic and the kids loved them. If you would like to help or know other quilters who would like to donate, please contact me! We have some great opportunities to make a difference in a child's life. My email is kate@wrappedupinsports.org if you are interested.

I love the quilt! My husband has been an avid Boston Red Sox fan all his life, having gone to a couple of games with his grandfather as a kid. I would love to have more information on how you created this marvelous work of art, if possible. It would completely surprise him if I were able to do this myself. Thank you so, so much!!!

I would really love to make a quilt like this for my best friend. She is an avid Red Sox fan who converted me from Yankeeism ;) I love the center block. Do you have a pattern I could buy? I know little to nothing about quilting but maybe with a pattern and help from another friend I could make it! Thanks! email at rebafan13@yahoo.com

I was hoping to see a public response to all the inquiries regarding the logo in the middle. I am wanting to make a similar quilt for my husband. Did you embroider it or is it pieced applique? Very nice job and would really like to know how you went about it. Maybe you could email me or update the article to include some more details? Obviously many of us absolutely love this....even now in 2017!! :)
