To Border or Not to Border

...That is the question. Here is my latest scrappy quilt. I made this quilt for my business partner's daughter who is 7. She is a very ill little angel and I think she needs a quilt as soon as possible. She has just started her first round of chemo to treat leukemia and I wanted to make something very happy and bright for her. Well, this sure fits the bill, doesn't it? At any rate, what I was hoping for is some input from all you quiters out there - does this need a "calming" border, possibly a great psychedelic border, or no border at all? Why can't I decide on this one? I keep staring at it and just can't seem to come to a decision. The quilt is so far outside of my comfort zone, I think it froze me up! I am stuck, for sure. Help me out on this one. I need to get it done!

I think I would not put a border on it. Lovely, lively quilt for a sick little girl. Very nice of you to make this for her. Sometimes that is what is needed a nice quilt to snuggle with.

I would leave it as is, too. It is a very happy quilt! I'm sure it will bring her comfort as she gets well.

I like it just as it is. One of the nice things about making quilts for other people is that it forces us to quilt outside of our own color comfort zone. I love the bright colors! Just what a 7 year old girl will love!

I would add a border to give the eye a place to rest, but what a bright and cheery quilt for a girl!

I don't think it needs a border. But if you have something in stash that would work just use that otherwise go without. I think because you are asking means you think it needs one.

I don't think it needs a border, but I would definitely do a darkish border (That darker blue maybe) to contain it.

This is a fabulous quilt for a sick child...fun and funky and bright to cheer her up a bit.

I would probably put on a border, although it is lovely the way it is. I just find that my quilts come out flatter when I put on a border (I usually heavily machine quilt). I would likely make a scrappy border the size of the rectangle inside your blocks.

It is beautiful, fun and happy. I would not border it - adults see things differently than children. Go ahead and get it quilted up!!! My 4.5 year old son loves his quilts with batting and flannel backing or no batting at all and a fleece backing. Either way - soft and cuddly. You could opt for a dark binding - wider than usual? I've done that sometimes and it gives the effect of a skinny border. You did a great job.

Cheers!

I reckon that it is great as it is. The fun will go right up to the edge then.
